Is Edin Dzeko Turin-bound?

Diego for Dzeko?

Arguably the biggest transfer story on the continent this week is a rumoured part exchange between Wolfsburg and Juventus, with Edin Dzeko and Diego the players at the centre of events.

Gazzetta dello Sport, Italy’s leading sports newspaper, is reporting that Juve are looking to free up some cash as they embark on a recruitment drive this summer, the underperforming Diego seen as the ideal player to offload in order to scale down the club’s wage bill.

One of La Vecchia Signora’s major problems last season was a lack of potency in front of goal, an issue that Dzeko – 56 goals in 94 Bundesliga appearances – would likely solve. Should the potential deal be brokered it is widely thought that David Trezeguet would leave Turin with his first team opportunities likely to be limited yet further, the 32 year-old Frenchman having been linked with Milan, Napoli, Valencia and Galatasaray amongst others.

Van der Wiel to Bayern?

Meanwhile, in Germany, Kicker is reporting that Bayern Munich are interested in bringing Holland’s adventurous and composed right-back Gregory van der Wiel to the Allianz Arena.

With Holger Badsturber having failed to produce a consistent level of performance last season, van der Wiel would likely come in as a starter on the right side of Bayern’s defence with Philipp Lahm returning to his original position at left-back.

Suggestions that a pre-contract agreement has been approved seem unlikely, with Ajax claiming that they are still to receive an official offer from the Bavarian club. Although this rumour would appear to have a certain amount of weight to it, an asking price of around €20m could prove prohibitive to the reigning Bundesliga champions as they continue their pursuit of the player.

The race to sign Ayew

The Daily Mail believes that Birmingham City are leading the race to secure the signature of Marseille’s excellent young Ghanaian midfielder Dede Ayew who has been valued at €5.5m by the French club.

However, Alec McLeish will face stiff competition for the winger’s services with Bayern Munich reportedly showing an interest in the player, Louis van Gaal seeking to add extra creativity to his squad this summer
